How big is hockey at SBU? We now have two teams.

Each team roster can accommodate up to 30 players per year. They compete at the William O Smith Center in Olean, just four miles from campus.

Founded in the early '70s, the men's club hockey team is one of the first club sports established at St. Bonaventure University.

Both teams compete in the Upstate New York Collegiate Hockey League (UNYCHL), part of AAU College Hockey. One team competes in Division I, the other in Division II.

What started out as a club then became an NCAA team before returning to its club roots in the mid ‘90s. The bond between the icers from all those teams remains strong.

The support in the stands wherever our hockey team plays is always felt. Hockey reunions through the years have tied our club and NCAA players together as one program.

The hockey program has a strong culture of brotherhood, tying in our Franciscan values of compassion, wisdom, and integrity. The growth of the program over the years is due to the commitment from these young men to represent not only the university but the alumni who came before them.
