Sullivan Murphy's page
FCSC is an important part of Saint Bonaventure it carries out the school's Franciscan Values through various groups and projects.
One part of FCSC that I'm a part of is the Warming House. It is a student run soup kitchen in the heart of Olean. It is known as the oldest student run soup kitchen in the nation. At the Warming House we serve 60-140 free meals a day. We serve hot and healthy meals to our guests. These meals are not the only thing our guests receive they also are given dignity, as the Warming House is a Place of community where our guests can feel safe. It is important we give our guests dignity as sometimes they are forgotten or ignored by the rest of society.
Another part of FCSC is Break the Bubble, a once a semester trip to Philadelphia and the Saint Francis Inn. The Inn is in Kensington, a very poor area of Philly. The Inn serves double the meals of the Warming House. Ive gone on the trip to Philly twice and both times it was completely paid for by FCSC thanks to generous donors.
Lastly, I was part of Farm to Table a ten week summer program where I worked at a local farm (Canticle Farm) and the Warming House. The Farm would give the Warming House fresh vegetables which we could then serve to our guests.
These programs have given me an opportunity to meet all different kinds of people. I've made great friends and experiences through these FCSC programs.
