For the past five and one half years, I have had the privilege of working with young adults at St. Bonaventure University as they serve others through several outreach programs.
- Warming House-believed to be the oldest student-run soup kitchen in the country
- Bona Buddies-largest youth mentoring program in Cattaraugus County
- SBU Food Pantry-begun in 2019 when it was discovered that college food insecurity is a thing
- SBU@SPCA-a chance to allow SBU students to prepare dogs and cats socialization in preparation for adoption
- Silver Wolves-relationship building and engagement between SBU students and local seniors
- Break the Bubble-taking students away from campus to engage in transformational service and advocacy opportunities
Not only do SBU students engage in transformational service, but they gain experience in leadership and practicing Franciscan values in everyday situations. Our university values of compassion, wisdom and integrity are values we want our students to take with them when they leave St. Bonaventure. It is our hope that each student leaves Bona's knowing how to offer hope and light to the world where they will live and work. It is our belief that service with reflection forms young adults for the world.
