Silver Wolves

Silver Wolves, one of the newer outreach programs in the FCSC, offers the opportunity for SBU students to form relationships with older members of the Olean community. First begun at Eden Heights, students make weekly visits to talk, play games, do crafts and create real bonds with people who have time on their hands. SBU students have expanded this outreach program to include the residents at Field of Dreams in Allegany, New York.

At St. Bonaventure, we see the importance of intergenerational relationships in order to learn from others. Pope Francis is quoted as saying, "a population that does not take care of the elderly and of children and the young has no future, because it abuses both its memory and its promise.” The SBU students who participate in Silver Wolves seek to care for these individuals to ensure they are never forgotten.

During our weekly visits we play card games and trivia, and make seasonal crafts. Alongside all of our activities, we create bonds with the residents and have amazing conversations. Silver Wolves is a bright spot in the lives of both the students and the residents of Eden Heights and Field of Dreams.
